Martha Graham’s Men
Excerpt from an interview with former Martha Graham Dance Company dancer Robert Cohan for an upcoming documentary about his life.
Robert Cohan, star of the Graham Company from 1946 to 1957. Returning to the Graham Company in 1962 for its European tour he soon became a Co-Director of the Company with Bertram Ross.
In 1967 he left to become the first Artistic Director of the Contemporary Dance Trust in London and as such was the founding Artistic Director of The Place, London Contemporary Dance School and London Contemporary Dance Theatre, (LCDT) which he directed for the next 20 years.
He was a major figure in bringing modern dance to the UK in the 1960s -- known as the father of modern dance in the UK.
